ETA (Electronic Travel Authorization) is a pre-travel requirement that certain countries require from travelers before entry. For U.S. travelers visiting Europe, a new system, ETIAS (European Travel Information and Authorization System), will soon be in place and serves a similar purpose. Here’s what you need to know:
ETIAS is a straightforward, low-cost online authorization that U.S. travelers will need to complete before trips to most European countries starting in 2025. It’s advisable to apply at least a few days before travel to allow for any processing time. Once approved, you’ll be set for multiple trips to Europe without reapplying for up to three years.
